Hello 2012!

You know it has been a busy time when you post a Happy New Year's message on your blog thirteen days after the new year has already been celebrated.  You know you are tired when while writing the aforementioned blog message you become uncertain whether you put the correct year in - yes, I struggled to remember whether the new year was 2012 or 2013.  Apparently, I need to get some sleep.  However, who has the time to sleep with so much going on in fabulous New York City.

January is a really exciting time for nightlife in the Big Apple, as ringing in the new year leads a lot of people hungry for more.  There are often new clubs and lounges springing into existence, new people moving into the city, and the cold weather seems to inspire people to escape the harsh temperatures with a night of dancing and debauchery.

One thing that always seems to surprise neophytes to the island about Manhattan nightlife is coat check.  I am not sure if this is because move here from warmer climates, or if they are not used to the concept, but for some reason whenever people out to celebrate in the winter they seem to get caught off guard by coat check.  However, let me assure you newbie NYC Nightlife goers, coat check is your friend.  You do not have to watch your jacket all night, keep up with your belongings, or worry about someone spilling a drink (or worse) on your coat - instead, someone will watch it for you.  Another plus of this is that you have a lot more room in the club, as you do not have everyone's garments getting in your way.

At any rate, keep in mind that NYC Nightlife is really incredible during the month of January, especially in the middle of the month as everyone returns from any vacations they may have taken to warmer climates, and if you are looking to party then you should get ready to have a blast.  Also, if you are celebrating a New York Birthday, you can get some great deals on bottle service at many places in NYC.  Enjoy, and prepare your livers for a ton of fun!
