Most people who think of Thanksgiving will undoubtably think of turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing, cranberry sauce, and perhaps some type of football. Those who think of Christmas will think of decorating trees, hams, opening gifts, and perhaps stealing a kiss under the mistletoe. However, if you are living in New York City, you might have some surprising thoughts regarding these two holidays.
This year, both Thanksgiving Eve and Christmas Eve are going to play hosts to a wide range of parties at various clubs. Thanksgiving made sense to me, because most people typically have off the next day (or entire weekend), and since dinners do not start until late, it seems the perfect time to go out and party.
The whole Christmas Eve party idea is a bit newer to me, and makes a little sense. I mean, sure, Christmas Eve is occurring on a Saturday this year, and most people are not really doing much the next day, but really I find it hard to believe that everyone wants to go out and party to celebrate Christmas Eve. I mean, the birth of Jesus might be a good reason to celebrate with a little wine, but bottle service and cover charges on this holiday are just a bit weird to me.
Then again, in today's economy I suppose that any excuse to throw a party is a good one, and I hope that the venues that are attempting to throw parties for Christmas Eve experience some great success. After all, you would hate to receive a lump of coal in the cash register on Christmas Day if the night does not go as well as you hope.
Party on NYC!

Violence at Nightclubs
You know, I really just don't get violence at nightclubs. Everyone is supposed to be there to have fun, drink, and dance the night away. It doesn't seem right that people should have to worry about violence breaking out beyond a fight here and there, but unfortunately yet another episode of gun violence happened this week.
In Chelsea, at the Juliet Supper Club, three people were shot (one fatally) early in the am on Tuesday morning. This tragedy is certainly not the first New York City nightclub violence, but once again it seems that most people are missing the story - gunplay at a nightclub. Instead, most of the stories seem to be focused on the fact that several NFL athletes were on the premises help Victor Cruz (New York Giants wide receiver) celebrate his birthday.
This irritates me because it doesn't focus on the fact that people were injured and one even died. Instead, it just hypes of the fact that some sports players were on the premises. Where is the focus on the violence or the outrage about guns being in a place where people are supposed to have fun?
It also reminds me of the time when a former Giants player shot himself in the leg - all of the hype was on him, how it would effect his team, and how injured he might be, ignoring the fact that he had a gun in a club that could have endangered innocent bystanders.
Come on New York City - let's leave the guns at home and focus on having fun. Bottle service can be expensive enough without a trip to the nightclub costing someone their lives. Bottles not bullets!

Thanksgiving Soon Means New Year's Eve is Getting Closer!
I realized today that Thanksgiving is almost here, and in less than two weeks, I will be enjoying some delicious turkey, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, corn, and a variety of other delicious treats, plus of course some great football games as I struggle to stay awake after I finish my meal.
Not too far in the future after my mega-calorie day, the new year will be upon me. Once again, it will be time to dive into the mad whirlpool of trying to figure out which venue to celebrate my NYC New Year's Eve at.
There are so many options, and even though it is nice to have an easy to use resource to view all of the parties and such at, the list is a bit overwhelming. Also, tickets to the NYC New Year's parties are surprising expensive, especially for someone who is not used to New York City prices. Besides that, if you really want VIP access and service, you should expect to pay even more.
Someone asked me the other day if the cost of partying for New Year's in NYC is worth it, and I have to say that it is. If for no other reason, there is something about being in the city that you grow up watching on television as the center of the celebration in the United States. Atlanta may have the peach drop, but as for me, the apple dropping at Times Square is where the heart of New Year's will always be. Celebrating in New York City just cannot be beaten!
